Robert Drury, a handsome film star, returns from Italy and announces to his wife, Stella,
that their son has been kidnapped.  Not for ransom, but to force the couple to allow one
of the kidnappers to remain in their house for 48 hours.

Two police officers arrive to question the Drury's.  It transpires that one of the kidnappers
has been found, brutally murdered, in the couple's holiday cottage.

It soon becomes clear that no-one is who they seem in this complex tale of intrigue.
